and the answer is…

…asa.

ok, part of the answer is ‘asa‘.

i got wallace and gromit for Christmas a few years ago.

bulky_03that same year,

i used spud & chloe’s outer

to knit up a boy sized sweater.

what fun it was

watching the time it takes

(or how little time it takes)

to turn super bulky stitches

into a child’s pullover.

then when

brandy and allegra

of petite purls asked

if i would redo the sweater for a grown man, i dove in.

i was sure my man wouldn’t go for buttons and super bulky yarn,

time to rewrite a bit.

adding a zipper and downsizing

to berroco’s vintage chunky,

made ‘asa upsized’ a sweatermens_02

that real men i know

would actually wear.

and wear a lot.

the zippers

at local shops were too delicate.

i wanted a masculine zipper.

eventually i found one,

found a lot of them,

on second hand clothes

at a local thrift store.

there were almost too many choices there.

IMG_1069croptorn men’s woolens

and stained fleeces abounded.

bought one and washed it,

used my handy dandy seam ripper

to remove the zipper,

wet it down,

weighted one end with clothes pin,

hung to dry overnight

hoping to flatten it out.

by morning it was good as new.

(yesterday’s pic is my camera

looking up at the zipper drying on the wall,  see it now?)

problem solved and ‘asa upsized’ ready to mail off for it’s photo shoot.

somedays designing is 1% knitting and 99% faking it.

whatever works, right?

smile.
