oh to be tiny

carol,

knowing that my girl is an 11 yr old  trumpeter,

sent her this stitch marker.

sj was so moved by the gift that she composed a song:

(you’ll have to imagine the bouncy little tune):

*

i have a little trumpet, one that i cannot play.

it’s kind of itty bitty, but i do not complain

i cannot play a duet. it cannot play a note,

but i can knit a pink and purple polka dotted tote.

*

i have a little trumpet. it is too small to play,

but when it come to knitting, my trumpet saves the day.

i use it for my stitches. i use it for my rows.

so, i can knit a fuzzy sock to cover up my toes.

*

i have a little trumpet, one i would like to play.

when i use it for knitting, i shout hip hip hooray.

even if i cannot play: a note, a cheer, a song…

i can knit a sweater where the sleeves are way too long.

‘trumpet’ taken from 10:2 in numbers.

poem by sj, inspired by the little trumpet stitch marker.

  1. SJ that is a dear sweet song!! I have three sons who play trumpet in my family, all grown up men now. 🙂 The other son plays percussion. I can tell from your song that you love your little trumpet a lot.You have super talent at writing songs!

  2. I think it is safe to say that no stitch marker ever inspired a more cheerful or clever ode! And what a gift to be able to appreciate even the tiny good things in life. Good job, sweet girl!
