(or yak butter, when available)

d wanted tea

for his birthday

so i got him some.

i don’t like tea myself

so, knowing nothing of flavor,

i picked his for the pretty boxes.

he thanked me and then as he began to read the first box he grinned, then chuckled, then laughed.

i asked, of course, what was so funny about tea.

he read me this:

“…gently

…the tea leaves

joyously mingle with

(insert here a long list of spices)

to create a hearty portion that can

(this is where the grin became a chuckle)

dance on your tongue all night long.

sweeten and serve with milk

(the laugher began here)

or yak butter

when available.”

here i was thinking that tea was a fairly boring gift.

and when exactly is yak butter available?  i’m so curious.

‘dance’ taken from 3:4 in the book of ecclesiastes.
